Not too long ago, I ran out of my Kat Von D setting spray. When I went online to Sephora to purchase some more, I was devastated to find out that it was no longer on the site. Which meant it was time to find a new setting spray for my complicated oily skin.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t really been keeping up with Gerard Cosmetics lately. However, when I saw that they recently came out with scented settings sprays, I was a bit intrigued and figured this would be a great time to try them. There are a total of 5 scents: Green Tea, Lavender, Lemongrass, Peach and Jasmine. You can either purchase a single spray, a set of two or all five. I decided to go with a set of two and chose Peach and Jasmine. The scents I chose smelled great in the bottle…but when I went to spray them on…ugh.
I honestly don’t even know where to begin. I guess I can start off with saying that in regards to the scents, I do not like the two setting sprays that I chose. Now while Peach smells great in the bottle, after it sprays on it changes to a strong chemical smell. I literally had to hold my breath to try to avoid inhaling it…although that didn’t work. At first, I thought it was just me; however, I did have my cousin try it and she had the same experience.
As for the Jasmine, it also has a pleasant scent. Thankfully, it did not have a strong chemical scent after I sprayed it. However, once sprayed on my face the scent literally lasted throughout most of the morning. After the first 30 minutes, the smell really began to irritate me. I would like to smell my perfume/body spray all day, not my setting spray.
Despite the above, I’ve used the spray quite a few times to see if I should just deal with it… I didn’t find anything that made this stand out from other setting sprays (other than the scent). I do like how it smooths out and finishes my makeup. I also like how it has a very fine mist and doesn’t feel like it’s going spray my makeup off. However, by mid-day my face was on its way to becoming an oil refinery (even though I used a primer) and my make up was beginning to wear off in a few places.
Now because I don’t like wasting my hard-earned money, I figured I had to find another way to use it. So I tried using it by spraying it onto my beauty blender and then lightly tapping it around my face, adding more as needed. I found that this technique was great to help blend out my contour as well as eliminating that powdery finish. Also, by using this technique I didn’t experience the chemical scent from the Peach spray or the lasting scent from Jasmine spray.
In terms of a setting spray, this is just not for me. So once again I’m on the hunt for a setting spray. I truly hope that the Kat Von D Setting Spray comes back out. If and when it does, I will be purchasing them quite a few. In the mean time, what you setting sprays do you beauties recommend?
