For this month’s Julep Maven box, I decided to add-on the Bare Face Cleansing Oil and the Konjac Sponge (will be on tomorrow’s post).
For a long time, I’ve wanted to try a cleansing oil but was scared to due to my extremely oily skin. Even though I read good reviews for them (even people with oily skin), I was still hesitant to spend a lot of money for it. So, when I saw that Julep came out with one and that I could use my Julep Rewards for it, I quickly added it to my September box.
I love the packaging that it comes in. It has a very sleek look to it. As soon as I opened it, I just had to take big whiff of it. It smells so good! It has a nice mellow citrusy smell to it. Which made me want to taste it… but I refrained from doing that, ha-ha.
According to Julep:
“The conditioning formula reaches deep into pores to dissolve makeup, dirt and other impurities, then rinses clean with no oily residue. It gently, yet thoroughly cleanses ALL SKIN TYPES without irritation while enhancing the cleansing experience with a refreshing and revitalizing pink grapefruit scent.” (Hmm… I definitely do not get a grapefruit scent from this. Maybe I need to go smell a pink grapefruit.)
Also here are some key ingredients that are supposed to make this cleansing oil good for your skin:
Rosehip Oil- A nourishing oil ( and natural source of vitamins A and C ) that helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and post-acne marks. (Say what!!! I have acne scars, so I’m really excited about this!) Contains natural fatty acids that bonds moisture to skin.
Malvaceae Lipid Extract– a lipid complex that provides immediate and long-lasting hydration and works to rebuild skin structure from the inside out.
Green Coffee Bean Oil– A natural anti-inflammatory that promotes cell turnover.
Olive Oil– A natural source of Vitamin E that softens and helps prevent post-cleansing dehydration.
Does this really work?
When I tried it, I made sure to keep my face and hands dry, and found that it did a great job at breaking up the makeup that was on my face. However, after I rinsed it, and rinsed it, and rinsed it again, my face felt extremely oily and I had to wash my face with a different cleanser just to get the oily residue off. Needless to say, I was really disappointed.
So, the next night I tried it again, thinking that maybe I used too much oil. Unfortunately, I had the same results.
Last night, after I got home from work, a light bulb with off! Both times I rinsed off the oil using cool water. Duh!! The directions said to use warm water! For a moment, I felt like I was stuck on stupid because I always use warm water. It even said it on the box! For the life of me, I cannot figure out why I used cold/cool water.
I rushed to the bathroom, applied 3 pumps and massaged it onto my face. I made sure that I got my entire face, including my eyes and eyelashes. I was actually surprised that I was able to apply this onto my eyes and keep them open without them burning. I then wet my hands with warm water and worked the oil into a tiny lather. Once I was satisfied, I rinsed it off really good with warm water.
OMG!! I thought I heard the angels singing!! LOL
All the makeup, including my hard to remove mascara, was completely gone and my skin was not oily! Instead, if felt as soft as a baby’s bottom. I’ve never used a facial cleanser that left my skin this soft. In fact, my skin was so soft that I did not have to apply a moisturizer.
I couldn’t stop touching my face all night!
So back to the question about does this cleansing oil work… Umm hmm! It sure does!!
To use this, you want to make sure that you do not wet your face or hands. You will need to use about 2-3 pumps and then massage it really good onto your face. (I did notice that it had a slight warming sensation.) Then wet your hands with warm water and massage your face again, you will notice that it will have a slight lather. Lastly, you want to rinse your face really, really good with warm water.
This will now be my number one cleanser. I’m really excited to see if it really does work at reducing acne scars. I’ll try it for a month to see if I notice any results. I’m extremely, self-conscious about my scars, so I’ll try my best to share the results with you.
