It’s taken me a while, but I’m finally hopping on the matte lipcream bandwagon. Even though I haven’t used them before, I was literally obsessed with them, like stalking IG for pics obsessed, or like fatal attraction love obsessed, especially the darker shades!
I just had to get my hands on at least one, so when I walked into Sephora and saw the pretty sleek and slim packaging of Lolita by Kat Von D, as well as the pretty tattoo inspired flowers; I just knew without even swatching it that this just may become my new favorite lip shade.
Just take a look at these swatches! This shade can easily look great on just about every skin tone. I know that most would wear this color during the fall/winter, but the color is so pretty that I’ll definitely be wearing it a lot this summer.
Lolita is described as a chestnut rose; however, I find it to be more of a dusty mauve. The formula is extremely pigmented and it applied easily without any streaks. Once this beauty was on, she dried to matte perfection in less than two minutes without any problems. (Tip: While it’s drying don’t press your lips together or you may displace some of the lipstick.)
One coat is all you need and once it’s on it will literally last you all day long. I was truly surprised that I did not need to do any touch ups, even through eating and drinking. However, eating greasy foods may break down the formula and cause it to fade away.
This can be very drying on the lips, so when using matte lip creams like these, you want to make sure that your lips are nice, smooth and moisturized. If not every crack and piece of dry skin will show right through. So make sure to exfoliate and moisturize prior to applying.
I do want to quickly mention a helpful tip when applying matte lip creams. I find that the applicator can be a tad bit wide when trying to perfect the lip line and it’s a beyotch to clean up any mistakes once they start to dry. So I like to use a small lip brush to apply it to the outer edges and inner corners of my lips and then use the applicator to just fill the rest in. It may sound like too much work but it definitely helps out.
Other than the dryness, the one other thing I don’t like about it is the scent. It has a weird plastic like smell to it, but it does fade away pretty fast once applied. I wish companies would really take scents into consideration when making products. I mean it doesn’t have to have a perfume like scent but they could at least make it scent-less.
Overall, I’m loving the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks and do plan on picking up a few more colors from this line. Can you suggest any other colors from this line that are a must have?
Are you loving or hating the matte lip trend?
Do you have any recommendations on any other brands I should try?
