Let’s talk foundation! A girl can never have too many foundations right? We have one for different occasions some better than others. Me, I find myself drawn towards liquid foundation for my day to day routines. However, when I want to take my makeup game up a couple notches I turn towards airbrush makeup.
I was given the opportunity to try out the Luminess Legend Airbrush System and I have to say I liked it! Just so you know I’m not new to airbrushing and am quite familiar with how to use one. However, for those of you that has wanted to try it and are nervous because it can seem a bit intimidating, have no fear this system comes with a DVD showing you how easy it is to use! The hardest part to me is trying to figure out which colors to blend together for that perfect match. But once you find the perfect mix ( I recommend getting a small empty squeeze bottle and pre-mixing the foundation so that you don’t have to mix together shades each time) it’s so simple.
Why should you try out airbrush makeup? The answer is simple… with non-airbrush makeup you get flawless coverage but with airbrush makeup you get FLAWLESS COVERAGE.
Luminess Air offers 5 different formulas: Mystic, Silk, Ultra, Matte and Satin. So no matter what type of skin you have there will be a formula just right for you. I tried both the Silk and the Ultra and although I didn’t find my perfect shade, I absolutely loved the formulas because they are water and sweat resistance. Those that know me know that my nose always starts to sweat. It could be ice cold outside and my nose will sweat. So the fact that I don’t have to worry about my makeup separating on my dysfunctional nose is amazing.
One of the things that stand out to me about this is the size and weight of the compressor. I own two other airbrush systems and this by far is the smallest and lightest one that I’ve ever used. It barely takes up any space on my makeup table. Another thing that stands out to me is that the Luminess Air gives you color options! Who doesn’t like having color options?
How does one use the Luminess?
Step 1: Setting up is pretty simple. Attach one end of the tubing to the bottom of your airbrush gun and the other end to the airbrush compressor. All that’s left is attaching the power cord. Easy right?
Step 2: Next you’re going put the foundation into the mixing cup drop by drop. If you’re lucky, you don’t have to mix foundation but if your skin tone is a bit more unique then you will have to play around a bit until you find the right number of drops for per shade. For me, I’m still playing around with the shades to find the perfect match.
Tip: I would advise to have a pen and paper handy so that you can write down the number of drops you used. That way when you mix the perfect shade, you’re not left guessing how many drops or which shades you used.
Step 3: Once you’re set all you have to do is turn it on the Luminess Air and spray away.
When using this be sure that you are moving the stylus in small circular motions all over your face. Doing this helps to ensure that you are getting even coverage. Also make sure to hold the stylus about 6 inches away from your face and to push the throttle back about mid-way. If after the first layer you still need more coverage, then let it dry for about 2-3 minutes before adding another layer (if you’re in a hurry, then can use the air from the stylus to help dry). Continue to do this until you get the coverage you are looking for.
One of the main things that I love about this is that if you have imperfections, you can get full coverage without looking “cakey”. I have quite a few acne scars on the sides of my face that can be a pain to cover but with this I can cover it without looking like I’m wearing tons of makeup.
To complete your look, use blush, bronzer and a highlighter. For these you only need to add 1-2 drops, be sure to hold the stylus a tad bit closer to your face and ever so slightly pull back on the lever. I found these products are a bit more difficult to apply (practice makes perfect); however if you find that it came out a bit harsh, you can even it out by applying a very light layer of foundation on top.
If you’ve been wanting to try airbrush makeup then I highly recommend the Luminess Air! The system is super light weight, easy to set-up and very user friendly.
